USA - CANADA

Welcome to

Province of USA - Canada

Let us present

Who we are

Our US-CANADA Province covers two different countries: USA and Canada. So, we work in English in the USA and in those parts of Canada where people speak mostly English, while in the Province of Quebec people speak mainly French. And because of the great distance between our two houses, one in Canada and one in the USA, we speak of our Province as being formed of two different Districts. Here we speak of our Canadian District. An American confrère would have to write about the American District.

our activities

Mission in action

District of Canada

Our mission work takes many forms:

In the Canadian District, we are actually 12 members. Among them one is parish priest at Iqaluit in one of the northern territories of Canada called Nunavut. Iqaluit is the seat of the government of this territory.  Another confrère, because of his health problems, is retired and live with the Marist Brothers.

Magazines

RMM and Leaves

Our humble magazine RMM is published in French every third month, and the LEAVES magazine adapted for our Canadian English speaking people. To keep in touch with the readers and benefactors, a confrère is in charge of our Office of Publications assisted by a lady.

Associates

The Apostolate of the lay people in the Church

We have a group of Associate members who meet every six weeks, first having supper with the community and then follows a presentation or conference, ending the meeting with the Holy Eucharist. The group of Associates exists since the 2nd of February 1985. The theme of reflection of the last meeting was about “The Apostolate of the lay people in the Church”. Frequently some of them will come to help or work with us in our house in Sherbrooke. Otherwise, each one is involved in the different apostolate in society.

Missionary Centre

courses

Our Missionary Centre hosts regularly different groups for meetings or courses, celebrations of families, retreats or evangelisation weekends, etc.

Accueil Abbé François

quiet place for prayer

Part of our house is called Accueil Abbé François.
It comprises a little oratory called the “Burning Bush”, offering a quiet place for prayer, reflection and contemplative silence in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Short retreats for small groups are possible. Rooms for retreatants and visitors are available.

pastoral work

diocese of Sherbrook

A confrere is officially appointed by our Archbishop to be in charge of the intercultural pastoral work in the diocese of Sherbrooke. He cares for the immigrants and refugees arriving among us. On many occasions, as a community, we welcome them in our house for some days or weeks.
Another confrère is the coordinator of the diocesan conference of religious, being also a member of the Episcopal Council.
We participate in the life of the diocese of Sherbrooke as much as possible in different ways, helping in the parishes on Sundays, as we have always done since our arrival in Sherbrooke in 1946.

Cooperative

Peruvian Fair-Trade Cooperative

For 32 years, groups of lay missionaries going to different South American countries, for weeks and even years, we continue working with a Peruvian Fair-Trade Cooperative, created by one of those lay missionaries. We sell their coffee and artefacts, in this way contributing to the betterment of the lives of people in the mountain region.

OUR COMMUNITY

We are a community of eight members residing in two separate places.  Two reside in a nursing care center and six in our community house.  Of the six, three priests are active in pastoral work and two are retired from it.  Three members work with the LEAVES magazine operation.

Magazine

Leaves

We publish LEAVES magazine bimonthly (since 1938) and we conduct four programs by mail (Lent, St. Anne, Holy Souls and Christmas) to invite the readers to participate in our community prayers and to financially support our mission work.

The St. Anne novena

prayer

The St. Anne novena in July is open to the public in our chapel (since 1930s) and it is doubly popular because St. Anne is now also the patroness of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
